Positive Thinking and Self Esteem

icanthinkpositive

Did you know that positive thinking and self-esteem are linked? The value we hold for ourselves can be directly influenced by the way we think of ourselves and the world around us. For this reason, positive thinking can support self-esteem and a higher self-esteem makes it easier to think positively!

Positive thinking doesn’t mean being naive about the world around you or grand displays of pride. Instead, positive thinking describes a way of thinking that is realistic and balanced while maintaining the optimism necessary to identify and celebrate the things that are going well around you. So, how can you practice positive thinking to improve self-esteem and confidence?

Practice Positivity Habits

  • Learn from failures- Instead of seeing failure as an end result, learn to grow through failures as an opportunity for self-development.

  • Setting positive goals- Both long-term and short-term goals can be integral to picturing and building the life you desire. Setting positive and measurable goals that can help reframe your perception.

  • Expecting positive outcomes- Instead of bracing yourself for the worst, try to imagine what a positive outcome could look like! Learning to prepare for what you can and then let go of what you can’t control can help you escape the anxiety of anticipating every negative outcome.

  • Life balance- No two people prioritize their life in the same ways. So, take count of what things are in your life and work to establish a balance that is comfortable and natural for you!

Practice Positive Being

  • Know and value yourself- Knowing who you are at your core and what you value can help you stop comparisons and will lead you to combat societal pressures that may hinder your pursuit of your own happiness.

  • Positive self-talk- Tell yourself you rock, you are amazing, you love yourself, you are proud of yourself. Tell yourself to keep going. Positive self-talk can keep you motivated and on the road to positivity!

  • Self-reflection- Take time to evaluate where you are in your journey. By making space to reflect, you can better enjoy the present and plan a path to the future.

  • Accountability- Own your mistakes and your successes. Know what you are good at and what you can improve. Accountability is key to long-term positivity and self-esteem.

  • Visualization- Where do you want to be? Who do you want to be? How do you want to be? Visualize the life you want to build and the person you want to be in the world. Stay present to that vision and watch your self-esteem soar as you gain confidence and direction.

You can build a stronger sense of self and learn to value yourself the way you value others. Start by utilizing positive thinking to build positive habits and you will see huge growth over time.
